School Uniforms Debate

Author: David
How developed our society is? Are we really that educated to care more for the character and the skills of the person rather than his/her look? Aren't we a bit hypocritical regarding people's outfits? Modern society people claim to be careless about the clothes of the rest but they are lying. We get impressed a lot when we see someone with nice suit or dress. We care about the price of the clothes, their brand and color. The design is also a major factor for us.
Why should we put our kids to all that stress? Imagine how poorer people's kids handle the jokes about their clothes and shoes which are not as good as the one of the other kids. Children are cruel but we can do nothing about it. Or can't we?
School uniforms are considered the perfect solution for small kids. They should make them proud of their school, create an identity and cover some of the financial differences between them. Is that fully possible is a question no one have answered. One is sure though, the problems poorer kids have at the moment will disappear.
Are the school uniforms an ultimate solution? I have my doubts. They stop a lot of kids to express themselves and may trigger a feel of being part of the masses and not an individual. We definitely don't want that to happen. No personality and clarity caused by uniforms are also reported as an issue.
Children's point of view
Kids definitely hate uniforms. Usually, the one who can afford the "in" clothes are against uniforms. On the flip side, branded shirts and pants are expensive and kids coming from low income families find it very difficult to match the rest.
With uniforms, children should stop worry that much for their look and focus more on studying. They will represent their school properly. Showing off with clothes won't be an issue any more.

Are school uniforms really so bad for kids' identity?

Are we really suggesting uniforms will make the kids identical or even similar to one another? This cannot happen. People are and will always be different. We are not alike in behavior, grades ins school, potential and efforts. Clothes are secondary, as they should be.
Another similar idea for educating kids is to make them work. Working as a team, depending on each other will make kids more socially responsible. They will understand the importance and the great benefits of team work. Some schools make their students clean the toilets. Of course, the initiative was started by the director and the teachers and then continued by students. The kids in UK may try to clean their carpets or windows. Instead of hiring carpet cleaning Mill Hill company, school's officials may try to organize the kids and the teachers to tidy the whole school. This will put everybody on the same level and will make kids communicate better. A challenge in front of kids should make them collaborate and help each other.
So, are the uniforms something good or not is a matter of personal perspective but in my view, they may help many kids to feel more comfortable during their stay in the schools.
