Informatica Power-Center on Grid for increasing Performance and Scalability

Author: sronlinetraining

Informatica has developed a solution that leverages the power of grid computing for greater data integration Performance and Scalability. The grid option delivers the dynamic partitioning, load balancing, parallel processing and high availability to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability. In this article let us discuss how to setup Informatica Workflow to run on grid.
What is Power-Center on Grid?
When a Power-Center domain contains multiple numbers of nodes, you can arrange and put together workflows and sessions to run them on a grid. When a workflow was run on a grid, the Integration Service will run a service process on each and every available node of the grid to increase performance and scalability. When a session runs on a grid, the Integration Service available distributes session threads to multiple DTM processes on nodes in the grid to increase the performance and scalability.
Domain: A Power-Center domain consists of one or more nodes in the grid environment. Power-Center services run on the nodes. A domain is the foundation for Power-Center service administration.
Node: A node is a logical representation of a physical machine that runs a Power-Center service.
Admin Console with Grid Configuration
Below shown is an Informatica Admin Console, which has two node Grid configurations. We can see two nodes Node_1, Node_2 and the Node-GRID grid created using these two nodes. The integration service GRID is running on the grid.

Setting up Workflow on Grid
When you setup a workflow to run on a grid, the Integration Service distributes workflows across the nodes in that grid. It also distributes the Session, Command, and predefined Event-Wait tasks within workflows across the nodes in a grid.
You can setup the workflow to run on grid as shown in the image given below. You can assign the integration service, which is configured on grid to run the workflow on it.

Setting up Session on Grid
When you run for some period on time on a grid, the assimilation assistance circulates session threads across nodes in a grid. The Load Balancer circulates session threads to DTM methodsrunning on various nodes.  You might desire to configure a session to done on a grid when the workflow contains a session that takes a long time to run. You can schedule the session to run on grid as shown in image at down.

Characteristics and Advantages of Grid
  • Load Balancing: While montioring spikes in data processing, load balance guarantees guarantees glossy procedures by swapping the facts and figures processing between nodes on the grid. The node is selected dynamically based on methods size, CPU utilization, recollection requirements etc...
  • High accesablity: Grid complements the High accesablity feature or PowerCenter by making the master node in case of a node failure. This double-checks the supervising and the reduce time needed for recovery processes.
  • Dynamic Partitioning: Dynamic Partitioning helps making the best use of currently available nodes on the grid. By adapting to accessible assets, it furthermore assists expanding the presentation of the entire ETL process.
